TEAC had the following goals.

  • ・Improvement of estimation accuracy
  • ・Improvements in development efficiency

In order to promote activities toward these goals, the first task was to visualize the status of each project in terms of man-hours.

I had this problem.

  • ・Until now, we had been aggregating the effort without using any special tools, but it was time consuming and burdened by developers.
  • ・As a result, it was not possible to calculate the exact man-hours at the right time, and the true reality of each project could not be grasped.

Q-How to use

Introduction of TimeTracker for Input work time and aggregation

As a Input work time and compilation tool, TimeTracker was introduced to all developed projects. The developers have multiple projects, but they are able to efficiently enter the results while utilizing their My Tasks and filtering functions.

Check Input work time status in real time

The person in charge of TimeTracker implementation promotion division checks the developer's Input work time status using Input work time's monitor function. If there are developers who are behind on their Input work time, they are followed up through their supervisors as appropriate.

Simplifies preparing for Input work time

You have defined a standard task configuration (WBS) on TimeTracker. Each project utilizes the defined task structure as a template, and is designed so that you can enter the effort immediately at the start of the project.

Automatically tabulate Actual time on preexisting forms

Using API (*) on TimeTracker, Actual time are imported into Excel form that they have been using for a long time and automatically aggregated, and the aggregated Actual time are confirmed on a monthly and project-by-project basis.

Less burdens on Input work time

TimeTracker allows you to easily enter man-hours with just a mouse-drag-and-drop operation. Developers say that this reduces the amount of time and effort required to enter information, and that it saves time.

Input work time established

By using the monitor function to check and follow the inputting of man-hours in real time, Input work time has started to take root and Actual time is now collected more accurately than before.

I was able to check the status of my Input work time immediately and Input work time process started to stick.

Accumulated Actual time to improve R&D efficiency and accuracy of estimates

WBS can now be templated so that they can be prepared quickly at the outset. In the past, we could only see the man-hours per project, but nowadays, WBS has been standardized and can be entered in detail on a task-by-task basis, so we can see the man-hours per project deliverable. TimeTracker has gathered Actual time that can be used to improve the accuracy of estimates and develop more efficiently.

Templating and standardizing WBS has made it more efficient.

Speedily and accurately compiling Actual time

By automating the process of tallying man-hours, it has become possible to quickly obtain accurate information and take action. In addition, Actual time can be checked and analyzed in the same way as before, as it can be checked and analyzed using conventional forms.
